Silvena is the leading authority in the field of Eastern European and Eastern Mediterranean food in UK!
Silvena’s cooking is described as honest, robust and full of new and unpredictable flavours! Silvena Rowe’s career spans 23 years in the restaurant, catering and associated industries. She has held full-time, part-time and honorary positions during that time and also helped to run a family restaurant until 1995. Silvena has appeared on television on Channel four, BBC 1, BBC2, ITV and Great Food Live. In recent years Silvena has become one of the best known cooking demonstrators and worked as a presenter with "Mosimann’s Academy Of culinary excellence", "Baker and Spice" of Walton street and "Books for Cooks".
Silvena had a regular column in the Guardian, 2001-2005, where she was the Guardian mid-week food – writer. She also writes for the Independent, Sunday Times, Olive and Delicious magazines and most lately for the Evening Standard where she is considered the leading specialist in the area of Eastern and Central European cuisine. Silvena has cooked for some high profile names, including Princess Michael of Kent, Claudia Schiffer, Tina Turner and Ruby Wax.
Silvena has worked on a book with Malcolm Gluck, one of the most prominent wine writers in Britain. "Supergrub", published by HarperCollins in 2004, was voted amongst the top ten best cookbooks of the autumn season. Silvena recently created the recipes for The Genesis Breast Cancer prevention diet, published May 2006. Mitchell Beazley has published her award winning book, Feasts- Food for sharing from Central and Eastern Europe. The book won a Glendfiddich Food and Drink Award- May 2007 and once more confirmed Silvena’s position as the leading UK expert in the area of Eastern and Central European cooking. Silvena' is the food writer for Love it! Magazine, a weekly News International magazine, with over 500 000 copies, weekly circulation. Silvena' was a firm favourite and a familiar face on Great Food Live on UKTV Food. Currently Silvena' is a regular guest on James Martin’s Saturday Kitchen on BBC1.
Silvena' was involved with David Cronenberg’s latest film, Eastern Promises, where she worked alongside Viggo Mortensen, Naomi Watts and Vincent Cassel as a food consultant and designed all the food on set. Silvena' is the executive chef for the Baltic Restaurant Group, including Baltic one of the top 50 best, Wodka and Chez Kristoff. In Baltic she prepares a modern, light, trendy and contemporary menu of classic Eastern European dishes. Baltic Signature dishes include; Guinea Fowl Kiev with wild garlic, Georgian Spiced Moussaka, Moldavian smoked aubergine Salad, Buttermilk and Sumac roasted Lamb shanks, Pomegranate glazed Duck with shallot and Prune jam At the end of April, Silvena' appeared on a Celebrity chef special Weakest Link, where she re affirmed her position as one of the leading female TV chefs in Britain. Silvena' is the force behind the new Delicatezze range in Waitrose, an Eastern Mediterranean food range-just released on may the first, with impressive sales figures already (first few days only). The inspiration for this range stems from the food that Silvena' was brought up with, with Silvena’s father been from Ottoman origin. This range is the first of its kind in UK and has allowed Silvena' to enter and establish herself in the area of Eastern Mediterranean food, more specifically –Ottoman food.
Packs of food carry Silvena’s name- a first for Waitrose own brand. Silvena' is in process of working and introducing her own brand of foods. Silvena' is working on a two book deal by Random House on Eastern Mediterranean food and cooking. Over the last four months Silvena' has travelled and worked in restaurants in Damascus, Aleppo -Syria, Beirut-Lebanon and Istanbul-Turkey. Silvena' took part in "Let's Dance" 2009 for Comic relief on BBC1 in March 2009. Silvena' is the Executive chef for Baltic Restaurant Group, comprising of Baltic- one of the top 50 best restaurants, Ches Kristoff and Wodka
