A healthy and balanced lunchbox is essential for a growing child’s daily nutritional requirements. Research carried out by Foods Standards Scotland indicates that many children who take lunch to school are eating too much saturated fat, salt and sugar in one meal.

The annual Taste of Grampian food festival, now in its 19th year, implemented the school lunchbox creation competition to complement the Curriculum of Excellence and the overall drive to improve health and wellbeing.  The competition also promotes the “Developing the Young Workforce” initiative in the Year of Young People.

This year’s challenge is for school children, in teams of four, to create a nutritionally-balanced lunch (with a budget of £2.50) using locally-sourced produce.

Teams wishing to take part must register by Friday 30th March 2018 and written proposals must be submitted by Friday 18th May 2018. Entries will be judged live at the Taste of Grampian food festival at Thainstone Centre, Inverurie on Saturday 2nd June 2018.

We hope your school and pupils will participate in this engaging and educational competition, which will culminate in a fun-filled day at Thainstone with lots of prizes on offer for originality, product knowledge and design.
