Elchies, set in the heart of Speyside, provides the location and name of our business. Here we rear Ryeland sheep to give a regular supply of hogget and mutton throughout the year. We also rear Boer goats - the Aberdeen Angus of goats - for the meat market.
None of our animals are fast fed; they are reared naturally over their first year. Our mutton is killed out at around 32-40 months giving a lovely mature flavour.
Never tried goat meat ? It's rich in protein and low in cholesterol and fat - a practical alternative to red meats.
Our farm ethos is to utilise every part of an animal. As such we have our skins back and retail goat and sheepskins from our own stock. Our sheep and alpacas provide the fleeces that go into the production of our ranges of Duet and Solo knitting yarns and our blankets and throws.
We welcome visitors to the farm shop and, if the farm activities allow us, we are happy to give short tours afterwards.
Our next Open Farm event will be Kidding Around 2019 which will take place on Saturday 18th May 2019. All proceeds to Motor Neurone Disease Scotland. Kid & lamb cuddling pens are a favourite!
